OGUN APC RELEASES OFFICIAL HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CANDIDATES AFTER PEACEFUL PRIMARIES*
_Analysis: Strategic Candidate Slate Signals Party’s Focus on Consolidation Ahead of 2027_
The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State has concluded its House of Representatives primaries and released the list of candidates set to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 general elections.
Announcing the results at the APC state secretariat in Abeokuta, State Chairman Philip Shaibu described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and well-organized across all federal constituencies.
The Confirmed Candidates
The party unveiled nine candidates to contest the federal constituencies across Ogun State:
1. *Funmi Efuwape* – Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North
2. *Olumide Osoba* – Abeokuta North/Obafemi Owode/Odeda
3. *Moruf Afuape* – Abeokuta South
4. *Toyin Taiwo* – Yewa South/Ipokia
5. *Olanrewaju Bashorun* – Ado-Odo/Ota
6. *Adijat Adeleye* – Ifo/Ewekoro
7. *Joseph Adegbesan* – Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside
8. *Razaq Dadah* – Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu/Ijebu North East
9. *Gboyega Isiaka* – Imeko Afon/Yewa North
The APC’s statement that the process was “smooth and credible” is significant. After the disputes that trailed some primaries in 2022, the party appears keen to project unity and procedural legitimacy early. A low-friction primary reduces post-election litigation and helps the winners consolidate support across party structures.
The candidate list also reflects a mix of incumbents, returning figures, and fresh faces. Notable is the retention of experienced hands like Gboyega Isiaka and Olumide Osoba, whose name recognition and grassroots networks could prove decisive. The inclusion of women such as Funmi Efuwape and Adijat Adeleye also aligns with the party’s broader push for gender representation.
Looking Ahead
With candidates now known, the next phase will be about coalition-building within each constituency. The real contest will be how effectively these nominees unify aggrieved aspirants, mobilize at the ward level, and align with the state’s gubernatorial strategy.
For now, the APC in Ogun has avoided a fractured primary. If that cohesion holds, it strengthens the party’s position going into the 2027 race. The focus shifts from internal selection to external competition.
