LIVES OVER SPEED: HON. DR. PRINCESS AYOOLA-ELEGBEJI SECURES RESOLUTION FOR PEDESTRIAN BRIDGES ON SAGAMU–BENIN EXPRESSWAY*

Yesterday, at the plenary session of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dr. Princess Ayola-Elegbeji moved a motion on the urgent need to construct pedestrian bridges along the Sagamu–Benin Expressway, particularly within the Sagamu axis where the expressway passes through the heart of the town. The motion aimed to address the growing concern over increasing road accidents and fatalities along this corridor.

The ongoing construction of the expressway has created significant safety challenges for pedestrians and motorists due to the absence of designated pedestrian crossings, bridges, and flyovers. The Sagamu section has divided the town into two parts, with rapid population growth and constant movement of residents, traders, students, and commuters crossing the highway daily.

Key high-risk locations identified include Sagamu Express Junction, RSS Junction, and Ikenne Express Junction. Constructing pedestrian bridges and flyovers at these locations will prevent loss of lives, improve traffic flow, and support local economic activities.

The House resolved to urge the Federal Ministry of Works to review the project design and include pedestrian bridges and flyovers at identified high-risk points. The Ministry was also urged to liaise with the Ogun State Government to integrate pedestrian safety infrastructure into federal highway projects.

*Key Resolutions:*

- Federal Ministry of Works to review project design and include pedestrian bridges and flyovers

- Ministry to liaise with Ogun State Government for pedestrian safety infrastructure

- Federal Road Safety Corps and Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps to intensify public awareness campaigns

- Committee on Works to conduct on-the-spot assessment and report back within four weeks 🌹.
