Ogun NULGE Gives Governor Abiodun 14-Day Ultimatum Over Local Government Autonomy*

The Ogun State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Dapo Abiodun, demanding the restoration of full autonomy to local governments in the state.

The union threatens to embark on an indefinite strike if the governor fails to comply, citing state interference and underfunding as major concerns.

NULGE's demands include placing Heads of Local Government Administration on a consolidated salary structure and implementing financial autonomy as directed by the Supreme Court and President Bola Tinubu.

The union alleges that the state government has taken over key revenue sources meant for local councils, leaving them underfunded and unable to provide essential services.

The ultimatum follows a Supreme Court ruling affirming local government autonomy and ordering states to organize elections.

However, implementation has been slow, with some states passing laws that contradict the ruling.
