A Nigerian journalist, Erasmus Ikhide, has escaped an assassination attempt after a Dangote cement truck collided with his vehicle on August 27, 2025, along the Benin-Sapele Expressway in Benin City. Ikhide, known for his investigative reporting on fatal road accidents involving Dangote trucks, had written a series of articles titled "Federal Republic Of Aliko Dangote," which some speculate may have been the motive behind the alleged attempt on his life.

The incident occurred when Ikhide's Toyota Salon car was hit by a Dangote cement truck, causing it to somersault three times. Fortunately, Ikhide escaped unhurt, but the truck driver fled the scene despite eyewitnesses being present.

This incident has raised concerns about road safety and the regulation of heavy-duty trucks in Nigeria, particularly those operated by Dangote.

This is not an isolated incident, as there have been other reported accidents involving Dangote trucks. Some notable examples include¹:

- *August 18, 2025:* A Dangote truck crashed into a Mercedes-Benz, killing three people and injuring one in Benin City.

- *Odukpani Junction Incident:* A Dangote truck collided with five vehicles and a motorcycle, leaving 24 people injured in Ondo State.

- *Asaba Incident:* A Dangote truck lost control and rammed into traders and passersby, killing at least eight people and injuring many others in Delta State.

The incidents have sparked calls for stricter safety measures and regulations for heavy-duty trucks. Members of the public are urging authorities to take proactive steps to prevent such accidents and ensure accountability. Some of the demands include:

- *Apprehension and Sanction:* Offending truck drivers should be apprehended and sanctioned.

- *Compensation:* Victims' families should receive compensation.

- *FRSC Emergency Unit:* A permanent FRSC emergency unit should be deployed to Sapele Road to curb similar incidents.

The authorities are expected to take immediate action to address these concerns and prevent future accidents.
