In a significant development, major markets in Ijebu Ode, including Ita Ale, Ita Osu, and Oke Aje, will officially reopen for business on Monday, July 21, 2025. 


This decision, announced by the Ijebu Ode Local Government, marks the end of a customary mourning period observed in honor of the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona GCON.


The local government, led by Executive Chairman Hon. Dare Alebiosu, made this announcement in a public statement, emphasizing that the decision to reopen markets was made in consultation with traditional authorities. 

The government balanced respect for the departed monarch with the need to alleviate economic hardship for citizens.


ABOUT REFUTATION OF RUMOURS:


The statement also addressed rumors about a prolonged market closure, clarifying that no directive was issued to shut down markets for 75 days and labeling such reports as false. 


The local government appreciated the public, traders, and market stakeholders for their cooperation and patience during the mourning period.


Hon. Alebiosu reaffirmed the local government's commitment to upholding order, tradition, and citizen welfare. 

The peaceful transition of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, a revered royal father, allowed for the respectful observance of traditional rites.
