*PROMOTING RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IN NIGERIA: A CALL TO UNITY* GTI: National Human Right Service

As Nigeria celebrates its diverse cultural and religious heritage, it's essential to recognize the importance of religious freedom. Mr. Bibi Oduku, Chairman of Guard Time Information, Human Rights Activists Nationwide, emphasizes that every Nigerian has the right to practice their faith without fear of persecution.

The 1999 Constitution guarantees freedom of thought, conscience, and religion under Section 38, while Section 10 prohibits the adoption of any religion as the official state religion. However, the implementation of Sharia Law in some northern states has sparked debates about Nigeria's secular constitution.

Despite constitutional guarantees, religious freedom is often challenged in various localities and parastatals. Intimidation, abuses, and restrictions in schools can affect students and staff. However, many Nigerians, including Christians and Muslims, coexist peacefully, working together in education, commerce, and social activities.

Organizations like the Nigeria Interfaith Coalition For Freedom Of Religion Or Believe (NICFORB), led by Coordinator Mr. Felix Joseph Samari, work to promote interfaith understanding and protect religious freedom. Other organizations, such as the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) and the Association of Christian Schools International, also contribute to this effort.

Rev. Amb. Ikpea Oyameda Samuel and Pst. Hon. Bill Francis emphasize the importance of promoting religious freedom, protecting human rights, fostering tolerance, and encouraging diversity. By working together, Nigerians can ensure that everyone practices their faith freely, contributing to the country's rich cultural diversity.

Mr. Bibi Oduku urges Nigerians to work together to stop religious and tribal crises, promoting peace and unity. By supporting organizations that promote interfaith understanding and protect religious rights, citizens can contribute to a better Nigeria.

We are all Nigerians, one family. Let's work together to promote religious freedom, tolerance, and understanding, making Nigeria a better place for everyone.
