CLARIFICATION ON MISINFORMATION CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA*

 *

Dear Constituents,

I would like to address a video circulating on social media in which Mr. David Ayodele Asalu made some reckless and misinformed statements.

While it may seem unnecessary to respond, I believe it is important to clarify the facts so that our constituents, especially those from this well-informed Federal Constituency, do not fall into misinformation or spread allegations that stem from Mr. Asalu's skewed perspective.

As your representative in the National Assembly and as a member involved in the development of the 2025 Budget, I will explain the process that Mr. Asalu appears to misunderstand.

Each member of the National Assembly is entitled to propose a constituency project. Our esteemed President, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, along with the economic team, has allowed each member of the House of Representatives to recommend projects not exceeding One Billion Naira (₦1 billion). These projects will be executed by specified Federal Government Agencies, such as DFRRI, ORJI RIVER, ENUGU, and REA.

*It is important to note that no member of the National Assembly receives any funds directly. The money for these recommended projects is allocated to the Federal Government Agency responsible for implementation.*

To ensure a balanced distribution of projects across various economic sectors, Mr. President has directed that the funds be allocated in the following manner: 70% for road construction to improve transportation of people and goods, particularly agricultural products from our farming communities to markets; 20% for educational infrastructure to provide Nigerian children with better learning environments; and 10% for agricultural initiatives to support the grow-what-we-eat agenda and enhance food security in Nigeria. Proper implementation of these constituency projects is also expected to create more job opportunities in the areas where they are executed.

Moreover, it is expected that each member of the House of Representatives consults with their constituents and state governments when selecting projects. This approach helps to prevent duplication of projects between state and federal governments and allows for the implementation of more initiatives for the benefit of the people. Ultimately, this enhances the economic activities of our communities and empowers them to lead better lives, which is the essence of democracy.

I would also like to mention that there are ongoing efforts to include the reconstruction of Erinlu-Imosan-Imodi-Aco Estate and Isiwo Road in the proposed projects. However, these specific projects will exceed the ₦1 billion budget limit.

I want to reiterate that Federal Government Agencies are responsible for executing these projects, *and no money will be given to any legislator.*

I appreciate that your decision to elect me as your representative in the National Assembly places greater responsibilities on my shoulders. I hold this office in trust for you, and I promise to remain true to the oath of office I have taken.

Please feel free to reach out if you have questions or require clarification on any public issues. Your understanding is essential as we navigate through these discussions together.

Thank you for your attention.

Warm regards.

E-Signed

Hon. (Barr.) ‘Femi Ogunbanwo

Member, House of Representatives
