— Ogun State Governor and APC Leader, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Friday received thousands of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party and African Democratic Congress into the All Progressives Congress at a grand reception in the Ojude-Oba carnival ground.

The defectors, including party leaders from all nine LGAs of Ogun East Senatorial District, were welcomed to a venue filled to capacity with APC members and supporters.

Welcoming them, Governor Abiodun said their decision showed they had “seen the light.”
“You have become one of us from now on. You will enjoy equal rights and full integration,” he assured.

He charged both new and existing members to return to their wards and mobilize for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that the party would sustain its dominance in the state.

The governor hinged the wave of defections on his administration’s performance since 2019. He noted that over 100 roads have been constructed across Ogun East, with 26 in Ijebu-Ode alone.

Key projects he listed include the Gateway International Airport, Olokola Deep Sea Port, Olokola-Kajola Gas Industrial Free Zone, and oil exploration in Ogun Waterside.

In a major announcement, Abiodun said he will flag off the reconstruction of the Ago-Iwoye–Ibadan Road on Monday alongside the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi. The project, secured with President Bola Tinubu’s support, runs from Ijebu-Ode through Ago-Iwoye to Ibadan.

Other awarded projects include Ilishan–Ago-Iwoye–Ijebu-Igbo Road, Okun-Owa Road, Aiyepe–Odogbolu Road, and Ikenne–Aiyepe Road.

“Help me ask them if they have ever done even a kilometre of road,” Abiodun challenged the opposition. “In 2019 they fell. In 2023 they fell. In 2027, they will also fail because they have nothing to campaign with.”

*Party Leaders, Defectors Speak*
APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, said the influx was due to the governor’s performance and inclusive governance.

Speaking for the defectors, Asiwaju Oladapo Odumosu and former PDP candidate Rotimi Okenla said after 17 years in opposition, they were joining the APC because of Abiodun’s track record and accommodating style.

They pledged loyalty to the party and promised to work for victory in 2027.

Governor Abiodun also commended President Tinubu for his support to Ogun State and expressed optimism that South-West voters would back him in 2027 based on infrastructure and economic achievements.

With the Olokola Port and oil-producing status in view, the governor said Ogun East is set for more economic transformation under the APC.
