REFINERY LEFT BEFORE MY TIME, BUT OGUN DEEP SEA PORT IS ON COURSE” – ABIODUN UNVEILS IJEBU ROAD, OIL DRILLING & PORT PLANS* _Oracle of Peace 🕊️²⁶ | Infrastructure & Economy Report_

*IJEBU-ODE, OGUN STATE – JUNE 2026*

Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has pushed back on claims that he “lost” the Dangote Refinery to Lagos, while reaffirming that Ogun’s $2.5bn Deep Sea Port at Olokola, Ogun Waterside, remains central to his administration’s economic agenda.

Speaking at the commissioning of the 6km Stadium–Luba–Tam Balogun Road in Ijebu-Ode, the governor said Ogun is now actively drilling oil in Eba, Ogun Waterside, as part of his promise to make the state Nigeria’s newest oil-producing state.

*1. “THE REFINERY DECISION WAS MADE BEFORE ME”*

Addressing viral social media claims, Gov. Abiodun said the Dangote Refinery relocation happened under a previous administration, not his watch.

“First, was I the governor when the refinery was moved to Lagos? I did everything within my capacity to retain the refinery in Ogun State, but others, through their irresponsibility, allowed the project to slip away,” he stated.

He argued that the same critics now accusing him of abandoning the Deep Sea Port are ignoring the facts. “We are working tirelessly on our port project. The Deep Sea Port is on course, and Ogun State will have one of the deepest and longest ports in Sub-Saharan Africa, if not the entire continent. It will boast the longest berth in Sub-Saharan Africa. Very soon, we will unveil full details,” he said.

*2. OIL IS FLOWING IN OGUN WATERSIDE*

In a major milestone, the governor confirmed that oil exploration and drilling have begun in Eba, Ogun Waterside LGA.

“During my campaign, I promised that Ogun State would become an oil-producing state under my administration. The oil we are now working to establish in commercial quantities has always been here. Previous administrations had the opportunity, but it is under my tenure that meaningful progress is being made,” Abiodun said.

If commercial quantities are confirmed, Ogun will join the league of oil-producing states, unlocking 13% derivation revenue and new jobs.

*3. IJEBU-ODE ROAD RESET: 26 DONE, 12 MORE ONGOING*

The newly commissioned Stadium–Luba–Tam Balogun Road comes with reinforced concrete drains, kerbs, and markings. Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, said the project will ease traffic flow between Ijebu-Ode and adjoining communities while protecting the road from flooding.

Gov. Abiodun disclosed that over 26 roads have been completed in Ijebu-Ode since his administration declared an emergency on infrastructure in the area, with 12 more currently under construction. Other Ogun East projects he highlighted include the federal takeover of Tai Solarin University of Education, the Dry Port project, Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway reconstruction, and ongoing oil activities.

*4. “OWN THE PROJECTS, PROTECT THE DRAINS”*

Urging residents to safeguard public assets, the governor warned against dumping refuse in drainage channels. “This road was funded with taxpayers’ money. Take ownership of it. It will boost economic activities and improve your quality of life,” he said.

*What Leaders Are Saying*

- *Dapo Okubadejo, Commissioner for Finance/Chief Economic Adviser*: Described Abiodun as a “silent achiever” whose Deep Sea Port and Dry Port projects are redefining Ogun’s economic map.

- *Chief Olusegun Okuboyejo, Ogun Elders Council Chairman*: Commended equitable project distribution and pledged elders’ support.

- *Hon. Dare Alebiosu, Ijebu-Ode LG Chairman*: Said Ijebu-Ode has witnessed “unprecedented infrastructural development.”

- *Oba Obayomi Olufemi, Elese of Ilese*: Praised the transformation in Ijebuland and urged the governor to sustain people-oriented projects.

*Oracle of Peace* notes: Whether refinery or no refinery, the real test is delivery. A functional Deep Sea Port + oil production + connected roads could reposition Ogun as Nigeria’s next economic gateway.
