OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT DECLARES WORK-FREE DAY FOR TEACHERS TO COMMEMORATE WORLD TEACHERS' DAY

 


In celebration of World Teachers' Day, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has declared Monday, October 6, 2025, as a work-free day for all teachers in the state. This declaration was made during the 2025 Teachers' Day celebration held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.


The governor's gesture is aimed at allowing teachers to fully participate in the day's events and reflect on their vital role in nation-building. Additionally, Governor Abiodun announced several initiatives to support the education sector, including:

- *Construction of Smart Classrooms*: 12 blocks of 900 smart classrooms will be constructed across four schools in each zone of the state. The benefiting schools are:

    - Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta

    - Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode

    - Remo Secondary School, Sagamu

    - Yewa College, Ilaro

- *Absorption of Interns*: 1,000 OgunTeach scheme interns will be absorbed into the State Teaching Service Commission, bringing the total number of employed teachers to 5,000 since the inception of the administration.

- *Renovation of Special Schools*: All special schools in the state will be renovated, and the feeding allowance of pupils in these schools will be increased.

- *Transport Allowances*: Public school teachers will receive transport allowances in place of work-free days currently enjoyed by other state government workers.


Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration's commitment to quality education, emphasizing the importance of teachers in shaping the next generation. He also highlighted the approval of the Ogun State Education Intervention Fund and the successful conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) using Optical Mark Reader sheets.
