*NIGERIA'S NATIONAL ASSEMBLY APPROVES CREATION OF NEW STATES*

 


The National Assembly has given the green light to several bills proposing the creation of new states in Nigeria. 


The proposed states that have scaled second reading include:

- *Ibadan State*: Carved out of Oyo State, sponsored by Abass Adigun

- *Ijebu State*: Carved out of Ogun State, sponsored by Olufemi Ogunbanwo

- *Orlu State*: Carved out of existing territories in the South-East, sponsored by Ikweagwuonu Ugochinyere

- *Oke-Ogun State*, *Ife-Ijesa State*, and *Ijebu State*: Part of a joint bill proposing three new states, sponsored by Oluwole Oke

- *Etiti State*: Carved out of existing states in the South-East, with Okigwe as its capital, sponsored by George Ibezimako Ozodinobi

- *Tiga State*: Carved out of Kano State, with Rano as its capital, sponsored by Ghali Mustapha Tijani


These proposals are part of a larger effort to create 55 new states and 278 additional local government areas across Nigeria, aiming to address regional development and representation concerns. The National Assembly has established a committee to review these proposals and make recommendations.
