*"OGUN GOVT CRACKS DOWN ON LAND GRABBING: TWO TRADITIONAL RULERS FACE CHARGES"*
The Ogun State Government has taken a firm stance against land grabbing, filing criminal charges against two traditional rulers and several individuals accused of forcefully taking over land and engaging in unlawful property transactions.
The affected monarchs include Oba Fatai Matanmi, the Onijoko of Ijoko Ota, and Oba Yusuf Olasunkanmi, the Olu of Orile Igbon in Igbesa.
*The Charges:*
- *Oba Fatai Matanmi*: Accused of selling a parcel of land to Madam Irokosu in 1976 for ₦22,000, which was later sold to another individual in 2016. Despite receiving ₦5 million to "let peace reign," Oba Matanmi allegedly continued to harass the new owner, claiming the late Madam Irokosu owed him ₦28,000.
- *Oba Yusuf Olasunkanmi*: Allegedly used intermediaries to forcibly take over land belonging to several individuals, extending enforcement to areas over one kilometer away from the original judgment site, and displacing legitimate occupants.
*Other Defendants:*
- *Chief Lekan Agbogun and Chief Akinbowale Beckley*: Accused of selling a property in Mosafejo, Abeokuta, to an overseas buyer without authority or valid documents, despite the presence of an existing building belonging to the complainant.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, emphasized the state's commitment to tackling land grabbing, regardless of the personalities involved.
"No matter the personalities involved, where the facts warrant and it is in the public interest to do so, the State will resist and redress all land grabbing actions that come to its notice," he stated.
