LAGOS POLICE CRACK DOWN ON TRANS-BORDER CHILD TRAFFICKING GANG

 

The Lagos State Police Command has successfully dismantled a notorious trans-border child trafficking syndicate, rescuing 11 victims and arresting four suspects allegedly involved in recruiting and transporting young Nigerians to Ghana for prostitution.


*Key Arrests and Rescues*

- *Suspects Arrested:* Four suspects were arrested, including:

    - *Mustapha Abubakar*, a suspected commercial motorcyclist and recruiter, found in possession of a 15-year-old girl about to be trafficked

    - *Charles Chima*, 54, arrested at Amuwo Odofin

    - *Emmanuel Nwaka*, 36, arrested along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

    - *Princess John*, 21, arrested at Ojota

- *Victims Rescued:* 11 victims, aged between 21 and 29, were rescued and are now in protective care, receiving necessary support and assistance


*Investigation and Support*

- *Investigation:* The police received actionable intelligence, leading to a coordinated manhunt and arrests. The suspects are assisting investigators in uncovering the full extent of the network.

- *Support:* The rescued victims are receiving necessary support and assistance, with arrangements underway to reunite them with their families.


*Police Commitment*

- *Zero Tolerance:* The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance policy for human trafficking and exploitation.

- *Public Vigilance:* He urged the public to remain vigilant, monitor the welfare of young persons, and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
