ZONE 2 OPERATIVES SMASH CULT AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING RINGS, RECOVER WEAPONS AND VOTER CARDS
Operatives from the Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan Lagos, have dealt a significant blow to criminal activity in the region. Under the leadership of Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Adegoke M. Fayoade, the operatives have arrested a suspected cult member and busted a human trafficking syndicate.
*Cult Member Arrested and Weapons Recovered*
Intelligence gathered by the AIG led to the deployment of the Officer-in-charge of Zonal Dragon Squad II (ZDS-II), DSP Akeem Adeyemi, and his team for a discrete operation. On March 19, 2025, the operatives raided the hideout of the suspected cult group, EIYE FRATERNITY, in the Ijebu-Ife axis of Ogun State. One Orekoya Abayomi, 54, was arrested, and the following items were recovered from his residence:
- *One locally made Single Barrel Pistol*
- *Six Live Cartridges*
- *Twenty-One Voter's Cards with different names (suspected to be fake)*
- *One Emerald Pump Action Gun with Breach No. 1335*
*Human Trafficking Syndicate Busted*
In a separate operation, operatives from the Zonal Intelligence Response Squad (ZIRS) led by SP Francis Kpoughul stormed the base of a human trafficking syndicate in the Ipaja/Ayobo area of Lagos State on March 22, 2025. The syndicate, led by Stella Edem, was busted, and Edem along with her accomplice, Susan Michael, was arrested.
Stella Edem confessed to recruiting young girls below 22 years to be used as sex workers in Mauritania. She was contracted by one Anabel, based in Mauritania, and was paid ₦50,000 as commission on each girl sent. Edem also confessed to recruiting her 19-year-old daughter and receiving over ₦500,000 from Anabel.
Susan Michael, Edem's accomplice, confessed to being contracted to recruit girls for domestic work in Mauritania but withdrew from the business upon discovering the true purpose.
The Zone 2 Command is continuing its investigation, and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion.
